A: As per information we have, the alcohol that is used in perfumes and lotions is not usually derived from grapes or dates. Hence, the preferred view is that it will be permissible to use such perfume/lotion/soap provided it does not have any other impure substance as it is for external use and not for consumption.

However, if alcohol free perfumes/shampoos/soaps are available it will be preferable to use such alcohol-free products. Raddul Muhtaar, Vol 5, Pg 228
