Q: Is it permissible to wear silk garments?

A: Wearing garments of silk is prohibited for males and permitted for females. Hazrat Abu Moosa Al Ashari (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Silk clothing and gold (jewellery) are prohibited for the males of my Ummah, but permitted for the females." (Tirmizi #1720)
