On Saturday, 24 June, the City of Johannesburg launched its solar geyser project in Finetown.
To ensure power load reduction, this is one of 10 programmes expected to launch during the financial year. According to the city, the heating of water amounts to at least 30% of electricity usage per household, and that solar geysers are expected to reduce this power consumption rate significantly.
City Power CEO, Tshifularo Mashava, said, “This is one of many to come. Geysers as a whole consume a lot of power and it can be costly on Joburg residents. We believe this is one way they can benefit financially.”
