This is possible due to the fact that Masjid al-Haram has the largest mosque cooling system in the world. Two stations; Al-Shamiyah and Ajyad; operate 24-hours daily to maintain these temperatures, whilst the air purification technology strips the air of 95% impurities before it is released into the Grand Mosque. Pollutants are captured into the air filters and then clean air is returned to the mosque.
Together, these cooling stations provide a total of 155,000 refrigeration tons, serving the entirety of 1.5 million square metres of the mosque, inclusive of its courtyards, prayer areas, and walkways.
