We fear that this man (Muhammad ﷺ) may meet with you and that his words may affect you. His words are like that of a magician. Be careful that he does not influence and your people and he has influenced us and our people. He causes division between a father and son, a husband and wife, and a man and his father.” By Allah they continued telling me about him and persuaded me not to listen to him. Finally I said to myself, “By Allah, I will not enter the Masjid without blocking my ears.” So I filled my ears with cotton wool and then headed for the Masjid.
As soon as I entered, I saw Nabi (ﷺ) standing in the Masjid. I stood close to him and Allah willed that some of his words reached my ears. I said to myself, “By Allah, this is not right. I am a mature person. I can distinguish between good and evil. By Allah, I will listen to him. If what he says is good, I will accept it; and if it is evil, I will ignore it.”
So I removed the cotton wool from my ears and threw it down. I then listened to him. I thought to myself, “Subhanallah! I have never heard speech better and more eloquent than this.” I waited for Nabi (ﷺ) to finish and then followed him. I entered his home with him and said to him, “O Muhammad, your people came to me and told me a lot about you,” and I told him all that they had said. “But Allah had willed that I hear what you have to say. I feel that it is the truth, so present your religion to me. Tell me what you command to and what you forbid from.” So Nabi (ﷺ) presented Islam to me and I accepted Islam. (Inspired by the Quran)
