In recent years there has been a surge in resentment towards Udhiyyah or ritual Qurbani carried out between the 10-12 of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. Proponents of a ban cite environmental concerns and animal cruelty issues. They believe that since the dream of Ebrahim (alayhis salaatu was salaam) to sacrifice his son was a test of his submission – any other ‘sacrifice’ representing submission aside from bloodletting will do. They also believe that exposing young children to animal slaughter is child-abuse. It is important that we debunk these theories by understanding the core philosophy of ritual animal slaughter, lest contradictory ‘reason’ prevails.
1. Zul Hijjah is from the four sacred months of the Islamic Calender. The four sacred months are Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijja, Muharram and Rajab. The rewards of any good deed done in these months are multiplied, and the sins committed in these months are also regarded as more serious.
As Salaamu Alaikum
I would like to thank the Darul Ihsan committee for helping me with funds to start my business in Ramadan.
With the funds I was able to purchase supplies and make savouries available for sale to people in my flats.
Alhamdulillah, I made an appreciable profit which assisted me to pay my rent, electricity and purchase provisions for my family.
I was retrenched as an employee in a hardware business and after many attempts at seeking employment the only option I had left was to work for myself.
Alhamdulillah, I have a talent for repairing electronic equipment and I started a small business trading as ‘AY ELECTRONICS’ in 2007.
However, I encountered many difficulties in my business like cash-flow problems and a lack of capital.
In desperation I approached Darul Ihsan Centre and they immediately came to my rescue.
The organisation funded me to acquire more tools and equipment to repair electrical appliances and assisted me with capital to procure stock for sales.
Although sales are small it has made a positive difference to my family and the upkeep of our home.
I would like to sincerely thank all at DarulIhsan Centre for the support they gave me.
Shukran
Yusuf

I write this letter to thank you all for showing such kindness in my time of need. Each member of Darul Ihsan showed so much care that a person seeking help could really count on, assistance from the organisation. It was a pleasure to see members of our Muslim community still being humble towards the poor.

Alhamdulillah, the bakkie that I received from Darul Ihsan Centre has made a big difference to me and my family.
