Launch of 1st Fiqh Symposium and new book 'Fatawa Al Ihsan' at Darul Ihsan Centre

Fiqh discussions keep the tradition of knowledge alive and Islamic scholars have always thrived on opportunities to broaden and enhance their insights and depth of understanding through mutual and respectful discussions.

Fiqh discussions keep the tradition of knowledge alive and Islamic scholars have always thrived on opportunities to broaden and enhance their insights and depth of understanding through mutual and respectful discussions.

In keeping with this spirit, on Saturday, 26 July, the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre hosted its very first Fiqh Symposium at the Darul Ihsan Auditorium in Sea Cow Lake, Durban. The event saw an attendance of 70 Ulama.

Together with visiting scholar and Mufti, Shaykh Muhammad bin Adam Al-Kawhari from the UK; alongside other prominent and notable Ulama; the event created a platform for academic discussion and sharing of knowledge and experience by all present.

Introductory remarks were conveyed by the Ameer of Darul Ihsan Centre, Mufti Zubair Bayat who welcomed guests and introduced special guests and panelists, Shaykh Muhammad Shoayb Omar, Professor Syed Salman Nadwi and Mufti Muhammad bin Adam Al Kawthari, together with fellow panelists, Mufti Shafique Jakhura and Mufti Shaakir Jakhura.

The first paper was presented by visiting guest Mufti Muhammad bin Adam Al-Kawthari who spoke glowingly about the salient attributes of the jurists of the subcontinent. After the first session, panelists were allowed time to make input and the floor was opened for discussion.

The second paper was delivered by Mufti Shaakir Jakhura, who unpacked the contemporary discussion of Trading Terms and the Shariah implications on contracts. This was also a very interactive session and participants robustly engaged the presenter on his paper.

Between the two sessions, the Fatawa Al-Ihsan book was launched. Alhamdulillah, with the grace of Allah Ta'ala, the Darul Ihsan Fatwa Department launched its new publication, titled, 'Fatawa Al Ihsan (Vol 1)'. The book is a carefully curated selection of compilation of authentic Fatwas (Islamic legal rulings) in English from a bank of over 10 000 fatwas that were issued by the expert Muftis of the Fatwa Department of Darul Ihsan Centre over the last 18 years.

Fatawa Al Ihsan answers contemporary and traditional queries, compiled for English-speaking Muslims seeking clarity on Fiqh issues that are grounded in authentic scholarship. The book is presently under print and will be available for purchase shortly.

The Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre continues to strive for excellence in pursuit of knowledge and remains committed to providing opportunities for spiritual and academic enrichment.
