لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِالله
La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to him, “Say, La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah excessively. Verily it is from the treasures of Jannah.” (Tirmizi)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah” is a cure for 99 ailments, the lowest of which is grief.” (Bayhaqi in Ad Da'watul Kabeer)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked, “Should I not show you a statement from under the Arsh, from the treasures of Jannah? (It is) La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah. Allah says, 'My slave has submitted and surrendered (all matters to Me).'” (Bayhaqi in Ad Da'watul Kabeer)
Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said that it is “…a gate from the gates of Paradise.” (Tirmizi)
Hazrat Makhool (Rahimahullah) says, “Whoever says La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah wa la Manja'a Minallahi illa ilayhi, Allah Ta'ala will relieve him of 70 harms, the lowest of which is poverty.”
'La Houla wa la Quwwata illa Billah' is a concise yet profoundly comprehensive statement. Through it, one affirms the Oneness of Allah and expresses deep reverence, awe, and total dependence upon Him. It embodies total submission and entrusting one's affairs to Allah.
Recite this formula in moments of difficulty, sadness, grief or stress, and also as a way of acknowledging Allahs' greatness and expressing reliance upon Him.
